This is a stainless steel potato ricer with a deep, perforated basket and soft silicone handles. Cooked potatoes go into the basket, and squeezing the handles presses them through 3 mm holes in a single pass. The result is a smooth mash without lumps and without the long beating a hand masher takes.
The basket holds up to 15 oz of cooked potato, so a holiday batch takes a few presses rather than many. The small, even holes also suit other soft cooked foods. Boiled squash, cauliflower, yams and avocado go through the same way and come out with a fine, even texture.
The silicone handles are non-slip and easy on the wrist during a long batch. Rinse the ricer right after use so starch does not dry in the holes. It is dishwasher safe, and a silicone ring at the end of the handle lets it hang from a hook.
